Aims and Objectives
Marine Engineering is a special branch of engineering interested in the main transfer unit and auxiliary units that are mounted on the vessels. In this program, courses focusing on the main subjects related to vessel engineering as well as electrical engineering, control engineering, vessel construction (shipbuilding) engineering and other relevant subjects needed to carry out maritime tasks are studied.

Job Opportunities
The graduates of this department can be recruited by merchantile vessels traveling long voyages as engineers at levels varying from the Fourth Engineer up to the Cheif Engineer, and can take up technical responsibilities in vessel construction (shipbuilding) yards and in maritime companies.

Departmental Opportunities
The Department aiming to train qualified staff for various areas of maritime sector, and contribute to nautical studies, is fully equipped with all necessary technological devices and academic resources to carry out maritime studies in various fields in strict accordance with the terms and conditions required by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 95 (STCW 95), and by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of United Nations. Along with the theoretical lectures given in departments, the students are provided with extensive practice opportunities in TEAL, the ship of NEU, and in other merchantile vessels during summer time.
Hidrolik Pinömatik Laboratuari
The Faculty, to which the Department of Marine Engineering is integrated, is also affiliated through the ordinance of Regulations of Seafarers which was put into force by the Maritime Directorate of Prime Ministry of Turkey on 24 July 2001, and studies and assessment procedures are carried out in accordance with the criteria specified in this ordinance.
