Near East Honor Day

"HONOR DAY" of the Near East, the Near East University, it had first seen the light of the day with this name on February 19, 2002. Alternatively, we can also say “It had risen on the basis of a new quest for right". In fact, more precisely, it is much more suitable to remember this day as an “explosion".

February 19, 2002 is a continuation of January 30, 2002. It is such a continuation that bears the meaning "a new seal for the quest of right to drop a new record in the history of the university(s)."

Twenty days before the Day of Honor, on February 19, a committee of 350 people from the Near East flew to Ankara to visit the Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk, the Founder of the Turkish Republic, and complain symbolically about the illegal behaviors and decisions imposed upon them. The following day, this Ankara "expedition" was headlined on newspapers as "NEU complained the Higher Education Council (HEC) to Atatürk".

In order to understand exactly the HONOR DAY of the Near East that we are about to mention now, first of all, please visit our website and read the article under the headline " NEU quested for its right in Ankara". The first big expedition of these outcries for equal right was initiated by the voyage to Anatolia, Mersin, with the ship of the Faculty of Maritime of NEU. Dated September 22, 1997 Tuesday, this first expedition will be the topic of another article; (with the thought that it will be a different taste...... to tell the beginning in the end).

Now we can directly begin to tell the story of the Honor Day; this story has already taken its place as an integral part of real life and as the most important page of the university's diary.

Honor Day was decided in a day. In fact, Dr. Suat Günsel had announced his thoughts and his decision 24 hours before; especially he himself and those concerned were mobilized to perform the Honor Day immediately. While intending to Anatolia- Ankara, this time NEU's right would be quested in his own land, in his own society.
