Prof. Dr. Doğan İBRAHİM AKAY

Prof. Dr. Dogan Ibrahin was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. His father was a watchmaker and optician, and his mother was a housewife. He went to the Ataturk primary school in Nicosia. Then he went to the Bayraktar secondary school, and then completed the Science section of the Turkish Lycee in 1972 with distinction. Prof Ibrahim continued to his undergraduate studies at the University of Salford in England, where he obtained the Degree of BSc with First Class Honours in Electronic Engineering in 1977. He then went to the Manchester University in England where he obtained the degree of MSc in Automatic Control Engineering. Prof Ibrahim completed his postgraduate studies at the City University in London in 1977 where he obtained the degree of PhD in the field of signal processing.

After graduating Prof Ibrahim has worked at several places. Initially he worked as a lecturer at teh South Bank University in the UK. He later joined the General Electric Company (GEC) in London where he worked as a principal research engineer, specializing in th field of LSI chip design. Prof Ibrahim joined the firm Computer Analysys and Programmers (CAP) where he was employed as an analyst and systems designer. He then joined the Greater London Council traffic control department where he worked for many years at high positions as a systems designer, researcher, and a programmer, specialized in designing computer aided automatic traffic control systems.

Prof Ibrahim joined the Near East University from its early days in 1990. He is the founder of the Department of Computer Engineerring where he worked for many years as the chairman of this department. He is currently the Chairman of the department of Biomedical Engineering.

Prof Ibrahim has over 60 technical books published by famous publishers such as Wiley, Butterworth, and Newnes. He also has books published in Turkish language in Cyprus snd Turkey. He is also the author of over 250 technical papers, conferences, and seminars.

Prof Ibrahim is married and has two children.
